Introduction: why you need mosquito screens in Granada and Malaga
Granada and Malaga are two of Spain's provinces with the highest presence of nuisance insects during the warm months (April-October). Mosquitoes, flies, wasps and moths are a constant annoyance that worsens near rivers (Genil, Guadalfeo), the agricultural Vega of Granada and the tropical coast. The most effective, affordable and healthy solution — without insecticides or electric devices — is a quality custom mosquito screen on every window and door.
At Tecnisun C.B. we manufacture custom mosquito screens at our Granada workshop using powder-coated aluminium profiles and high-quality mesh. We offer 5 different types to cover any window, door or opening, with professional installation or supply-only so you can fit them yourself.
Certified anti-pollen screens don't just block insects: they filter up to 99% of pollen, dust and airborne pollutant particles (per TÜV certification). An essential solution for over 2 million allergy sufferers in Andalusia, especially in spring when olive pollen levels spike in Granada and Jaén.
The 5 types of custom mosquito screens
Each screen type is designed for a specific use and window type. Here are the differences so you can choose wisely:
1. Roller screen: the most versatile
The roller screen is the most popular and versatile option. It retracts into an aluminium cassette at the top of the opening and rolls down vertically guided by tensioned cables or a side chain. When not needed, it disappears into the cassette. Compatible with casement, tilt-and-turn and top-hung windows of any material (PVC, aluminium, wood).
- Advantages: retracts when not in use, takes up no visual space, compatible with nearly any window.
- Limitations: not recommended for frequently used doors (mesh wears with repeated use).
- Guide price: from €65/unit for standard size (60×120 cm).
2. Fixed screen: the most affordable
The fixed screen mounts in an aluminium frame that press-fits into the window opening using metal clips or magnets. It has no moving parts, making it the most affordable and durable option. Ideal for windows that stay open all summer (bedrooms, living room) or as permanent protection.
- Advantages: cheapest, no mechanisms to break, easy to remove and replace for cleaning.
- Limitations: cannot retract, prevents full window opening.
- Guide price: from €35/unit for standard size.
3. Pleated screen: best for doors
The pleated screen folds horizontally like a concertina and stacks to one side of the opening. It is the ideal option for terrace doors, passage doors and large openings with frequent traffic. Opens and closes with one hand, sliding smoothly with no effort.
- Advantages: ideal for frequently used doors, retracts to the side, smooth one-hand operation.
- Limitations: slightly higher price, requires a bottom guide on the floor.
- Guide price: from €120/unit for standard door (90×210 cm).
4. Sliding screen: for sliding windows
The sliding screen glides horizontally along a track (usually the same track as the sliding window) and is the natural solution for aluminium or PVC sliding windows and doors. Manufactured with the same profile as the window for seamless aesthetic integration.
- Advantages: perfect integration with sliding windows, smooth gliding, easy to remove for cleaning.
- Limitations: only suitable if a track is available on the window, does not retract.
- Guide price: from €55/unit for standard size.
5. Hinged screen: for doors with frequent use
The hinged screen works like a conventional door: it opens outward on side hinges and closes with a spring or magnet. It is the alternative to the pleated screen for frequently used doors, especially when pets need to go in and out.
- Advantages: full opening like a door, automatic spring closure, optional integrated pet flap.
- Limitations: needs clearance space (outward opening), can catch the wind without a stopper.
- Guide price: from €90/unit for standard door.

Mesh materials: standard, anti-pollen and pet-resistant
The mesh type is just as important as the frame type. At Tecnisun we offer three grades:
- Standard fibreglass mesh: the most common. 1.2×1.2 mm aperture that blocks mosquitoes, flies and moths. Grey colour for maximum transparency. Affordable and durable (5-8 years).
- TÜV anti-pollen mesh: 0.25×1.0 mm aperture that filters 99% of olive, grass and pellitory pollen particles (per TÜV Rheinland certification). Reduces dust and pollutant entry. Ideal for allergy sufferers in Granada, where olive pollen levels are among the highest in Europe.
- Pet Screen metal mesh: made of PVC-coated stainless steel, it is 7 times stronger than standard mesh. Withstands cat and dog scratches without tearing or deforming. Essential if you have pets.
How to measure your window for a custom screen
If you choose supply-only (no installation), you need to measure correctly:
- Step 1: measure the opening width (clear span) at three points: top, centre and bottom. Note the smallest measurement.
- Step 2: measure the opening height at three points: left, centre and right. Note the smallest measurement.
- Step 3: check the opening is square by measuring both diagonals. If they differ by more than 5 mm, note this on the order.
- Step 4: measure the available depth of the window frame (where the screen frame will sit). Minimum 15 mm for fixed, 25 mm for roller.
Send us photos via WhatsApp and we'll guide you on a free video call. If you prefer us to measure, the home measurement service is free in Granada and Malaga city, and costs €25 (refundable if you order) elsewhere in the province.
